Ahn Drift...my wife does not eat big cala and I dont eat cala at all. My wife cooked the smaller one tonight. The kids wont even touch it. I still have big ones in the fridge. Those will also end up as bait. The magic of cala...you toss it in the water and it will turn into snapper. :super: :roflmao:

Portsea pier. The place was crowded. Too many floats with baited jigs in the water. Hard to find a place. Some blokes I always meet in Rye were also in Portsea. The whole battalion of squid hunters were there. The pier must be firing regularly. I am thinking of going back there this afternoon till around 830PM but I am tired of driving. :borg:

FC,

serious has she tried the big ones yet?(mind the pun...lol)
The fresh squidlies like that one not the ones from the market are soft, tender and so so sweet! Not rubbery at all!
Cooked quick as in toss toss your done, too many people over cook poor old squidlies than complain it too rubbery! But honestly even if you over cooked that beautiful specimen it would still be tender IMO....

Trading for snap???? Well yes if the snap are playing hard ball, but at this time of year and the next few months..... Id be keeping those squidlies....

When pillies will do no need to feed Mr Red with 5star fine dining when he is happy with macdonalds....

:roflmao:

calamari wise, I told my wife to cut a portion, cook it then see how it goes.

On the trade of catch, we invest 100x more in time and effort chasing cala land based than catching snaps on a boat. 1 cala = 100 snaps. :roflmao: 100 grams of LB cala = 10kg of boat snaps. :roflmao:

Nice Squid FC , but i am in total agreement with Dr Drift . Squid end up in my fry pan , lightly dipped in flour & fried in a shallow pan with olive oil & a greek salad on the side "yummy" . ;)

not yet Vinhii. It is in the freezer now, vaccum packed. I don't eat cala. For me, they are all bait. My wife eat a bit and she is researching how sink her teeth on the big ones.
