Shrimp in the Glenelg?

Post by Bugalugs » Wed Jul 21, 2021 1:33 pm

Hi folks,
sorry if this has been covered, but I couldn't see any posts relating to this.

Has anyone used shrimp in the Glenelg for bream?
If so, were they from the river and what methods did you use to catch them?
I've heard of a couple of ways, from using tea-tree branches to bars of Velvet soap. There's also a bait trap method I guess.
Years ago with my Dad we used to fish the Hopkins using them and we'd use a big fine scoop net and go through the reeds near the boat ramp and got quite a few. We'd then keep them alive by storing them in sawdust. Sounds odd, but it worked for us.
Anyway - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Neil.

Always got shrimp in boxes of saw dust whenever we bought them from johnsonville bait shop way back in the day, never really thought about it until now but it is weird that it keeps them alive.

Yeah we also used to get them in sawdust at the boat sheds in Warrnambool, way way back when I was a kid 40+ years ago.
Does seem weird, doesn't it?
I think the ones we got were more in small wood shavings, rather than actual fine sawdust itself.

Correct, wood shavings. Same here.
