I'm just wondering, what fish will go for whitebait?

I've never used whitebait before. I don't know what they are (though I've heard they're a species of fish). What fish (particularly at Mornington Pier) will go for Whitebait?

I’ve had a lot of success with just the ones bought at the servo with pinkies and salmons. Can remember some seriously insane sessions using white bait

Hmmm, I should try that next time along with the accompaniment of pilchards, pipis and the addition of squid. I planning to go on Thursday (18/04/2019) at Mornington Pier.

I have even caught bigger snappers with a whole single whitebait. 60cm +

Yeah ive seen 2-3kg snapper caught with white bait at Altona pier.
