Crab live bait in ppb

Post by sloth » Wed Nov 05, 2014 8:30 pm

Ok ... So I've never bait fished before but considering giving it a go for a bit of a change from flicking lures around. I'm still targeting bream so I'm thinking I'd like to try mussels and crabs. Specifically live crabs..... Problem is I've just been reading the intertidal zone restrictions and if I understand them correctly it's prohibited to collect crabs in the intertidal zone. So where do people get live crabs from? Do bait shops stock them?

Plenty of people get them from under the rocks at low tide from Williamstown to newport, not sure if its legal but it happens

Thought as much :/

Thanks for the replies guys - I might give live yabbies a go instead if I can afford to pay the Newport guys prices ;)

Will definitely give the prawn a run too Steve - thinking of just lobbing one out on a 1/24 jighead ...

I know a lot of people who swear by the live mussels Coles sell in a cryovac bag, absolutely killer bait! And only $9 a kilo so not to pricey

Makes sense. I've seen a number of tube worms on the pylons in the docks - do you buy them (live or dehydrated ) and how do you fish them?
