kill an eel by hitting it on the tail? You serious? where did you get this myth? I killed an eel once. I ran over it tail first. Does it count?

you cant kill them by hitting the tail but it does stun them. i dont know why it works but if you hit them on the tail they stop wiggling around for a couple of minutes

ok thanks tomcat i thought there was a bit of truth to it, so then i move to the second part of my question what is a good way of dispatching of them

What you might have seen is in reference to conger eels..English Channel fishermen, if they are keeping a conger, give the fish a hit on the back of the head, and one near the vent to subdue the fish before dispatching it.

hey carl i had heard it in reference to short and long finned eels in new zealand (not sure if same ones we get here)

i use old fish flesh as bait works a treat in small creeks. less than 2 min and im usually on haha

i havent caught any eel here to try but i have caught them back home in louisiana and thats how we would make them stop wigglin around to get them off the hooks. not sure if it works on the eels here but worth a try.
