Vanuatu LB today

Post by Milk man » Fri Jan 03, 2014 2:34 pm

Decided to have a crack at some LB fishing today which I soon found out is pretty difficult here.. After speaking to one of the locals that works at the resort I'm staying at and him giving me a location to try, I got a taxi and headed out to the spot.. The thing about LB fishing in vanuatu is that almost everywhere is private property or owned by a village so it can be very hard to gain access.. As it turns out when I arrived at the spot, the village chief tells me that fishing is banned temporarily to let the fish stocks build up.. The taxi driver tells me he has a friend who lives just down the road that lives on the beach and I'll be allowed to fish there.. So off we go but this place turns out to be about 20 mins down the road haha, anyways we get there and he tells me his friend says its ok fish as long as all fish are released, You beauty!.. It was low tide at the beach and I was only fishing in just over ankle deep water so I wasn't too confident but it only took 3 casts of my 15g baitfish metal slug to get my first of 7 barracuda.. They were only small, around 35-40 cm but when your catch 7 in 20 mins, they're good fun.. Also had numerous follows from a few different species but no hookups.. After safely releasing 6, the 7th one didn't make it.. My taxi driver then tells me that if I get caught with any dead fish that I'll cop a 100,000 Vatu ($1,160 AUD) fine :???: .. Not wanting to risk it i wisely called it a day lol.. I have another charter booked in for Sunday and I'll hopefully get out for some more LB fishing from a public pier on Monday

Nice work Haydos. Sounds like a productive little session. Hopefully today's charter provides you with something to really brag about (other than being in Vanuatu).
If only I could fish more
