From the New York Daily News: Eric Lester of Campbell Hall, NY made his way into the record books by boating a 60-lb. striped bass on May 14th in the Hudson River near the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge in Orange County, NY.

“Quite honestly I’m just still waiting to wake up,” Lester said. “It still feels like I’m dreaming."
"I was using bloodworms for bait, and around 9:30 a.m. I got a solid hit and the battle began,” he said. “Once the fish surfaced, I got a look at how truly big it was.” At one point, the fish dove underneath the boat and line was caught on the boat’s prop. Lester was able to free the fish, and won the battle in just under 15 minutes. The fish was estimated to be around 20 years old.

Lester’s big fish weighed 60 lbs. and was 53.4 inches long, and was landed on an Okuma Stratamaster reel- similar to a Convector Line Counter. He’s already dropped off the trophy fish to have it mounted, and plans to place it in his office.
