Weekend report.
Hey all, haven't done a report for a while, so will relate an adventure, which has been a couple of seasons in the making.
After much searching, Doug let us know he'd scouted a viable ballooning spot towards the end of last winter. So, early November, on a low swell day, He and I ventured down and tried it out. It was immediately obvious that it was spot on for what we had in mind.
Sunday gone, Adtrac and I made the journey down to have a serious shot at it. We arrived around 9, and quickly deployed a whole squid on one rig, and a squid head under the other balloon. Things were fairly quiet, until around 11, when my rod received a couple of solid whacks, and the balloon moved off track. I retrieved, only to find the lower half of my whole squid had been torn off, leaving me with only a partial hood. This was a fail on my part, I should have have used a double hook rig, instead of the single jobu through the top of the hood, never mind d, lesson learned.
About 30-40 minutes later, Ads shouts that his balloon has released, and instantly his rod buckles. It is game on, and a short, hard fight takes place, with a couple of screaming runs and lunges.
5 or 6 minutes In, and up pops our first locally, landbased caught Kingy. Not a huge fish, going 75cm to the fork, but solid as, and very chunky. We were, and still are, stoked.
Had one more possible, with a big shadow following up a retrieved bait, but essentially, it was mission complete.
Hopefully, sometime over the next couple of months we an pull a few more, and hopefully break the 1mtr Mark.
Any questions welcome, apart from the obvious one lol.
