Rhyll landbased tomorrow - any advice?

Hey all,

Headed down to phillip island with a mate tomorrow and keen for a fish.
We were thinking Rhyll will be the best landbased option as unfortunately the boat isnt coming down with us.
Any advice on what to target? Keen to try and get some pinkies, whiting, flathead and squid.

Cheers, Hammy

Hello, I’m no expert but I can tell you the experience I’ve had after 1 trip a Rhyll jetty (about 1 year ago). We used quite light tackle, 1/0 circles, long shanks with relatively small sinkers. I think we were using squid and we would just cast out (not very far), hold on and lift with bites. With that method we managed to pick up some small pinkies and flatties (all undersize) a local told me lures would sometimes be the choice. With fished with pretty bad weather, clouds, small rain but the small sinkers were sufficient for bite sensitivity. The guy at tackle shop at Rhyll has some pretty good, up to-date advice so it might be worth it to chat him up. Anyhow, that’s all I know, good luck.

Big spring tide tomorrow, high tide at Ryll about 5.30 a.m.

You'll need to be up early but it should be good!
