which is better? cape woolamai or cape schanck
hi all
I thinking taking the boat out this weekend and cant choose between where to go
want to aim for kingfish or sharks while bottom bashing or pull some lures for salmon around the rocks
after a cracking time of big flathead at Bermagui the smaller flathead down here don't hit the mark anymore lol
so going to change species for a while
but not sure where to go
any help be useful
cheers ricki

Right now, neither. The bulk of the fish I'm seeing are coming from between the 2 places

Shows how fussy the pricks are. All the guys I know have struggled at woolamai the past month either finding no fish or fish just not interested and found feeding fish to the west behind the island

It's the same old story; sometimes people get lucky and boat a few, the news gets around that "kingies are everywhere"
(often propagated by tackle-shops!) and soon every man and his dog are hammering the likely locations.
But guess what? They draw a blank.
The kingies are there, pretty much all year around, in the same spots, from Cape Schank to Woolamai, and beyond.
They're always (well 95% of the time) difficult to tempt, but on the odd occasions they throw caution to the
wind and will hit lures and baits like crazy.
It's a simple (ha, if only it was!) matter of being there at the right time. I managed it once - after trying
for 16 years! Mind you, I was land-based
Mike.

I disagree that kingies are there all year round this year they may be around for 4 months but other years probably only 2 months. I have never heard of any one catching a kingfish in august and yes there are idiots who will still fish that time of the year

They move up and down the coast and sometimes into VIC depending on the ocean currents.mingle wrote: The kingies are there, pretty much all year around, in the same spots, from Cape Schank to Woolamai, and beyond.
