Victorian kings
Hi All,
Fist time I've posted here. Have been fishing Wp and out front of Phillip Island fairly regularly lately. Mainly targeting the elusive Kings when the weather permits. Whiting and squid when it doesn't.
We had my 5yo son on board so we went to a mark that I knew would produce reef fish for him to catch. Wrasse, little Pinkies, leather jackets and even a King George. Anyway enough to keep him happy. Dad and I thought we would drop a couple of bigger rods down and not even 5 min later our first hook up on a King. Bit of dancing and some good rod work by Dad saw our first King in the boat. Another hour before the next screaming run, pinged my 75lb jigging braid on the side of the boat. Just wasn't quick enough. [emoji20]. Again we waited just soaking baits until another hit. Lasted a whole 30 sec before it reefed me[emoji31]. Called it a day after that.
Hit the same spot the next weekend, my tin a## brother landed one on his whiting rod. Not a monster but still a king on a whiting stick pretty impressive. I managed to get reefed twice again. Very frustrating but I guess that's fishing.
Will post more when we get out again.
Fish for the future.
