Yarra status

Keeping true to my new years resolution to make up for many lost hours by the water had in the last two years - decided early in the week that this Saturday was the time to get reacquainted with ol' faithful - the Yarra (having been over 18mths since I stuck my rod in her  ).

Of course....wake up this morning to downpour and all the cookie cutter estate lakes I passed on the way to work were overflowing... Is anybody able to cast an eye on the Yarra and give me a heads up on how heavy she is running atm?

Was planning to target anywhere from Heidelberg to Eltham (more inclined for the Eltham end).

Cheers and appreciated - Chris

Hi Mate
not sure how the old girl is running today but I hit Longridge Park last weekend and couldn't manage a bite except for freshwater shrimp stealing the bait.
Tuesday night I tried Winton's Reserve in Wonga Park - one big Mac Perch landed but not another bite that night.
I suspect the rain overnight won't have had to big affect on the overall flow.
Good luck and will be watching to see if you have any more success

As at 20-Jan-2017 2 PM=0.900 m at fitzsimmons lane. Which is slightly high but not overly I use the range 0.6-1.0m as to whether its worth putting the kayak in.

You'll probably be ok.

I've always found the Yarra to fish well with a bit of fresh water coming into it.

Thanks all (webpage added to favourites) - I'll give it a go tomorrow and come back with a report on the session here.

Now the decision on heading to new or previously explored territory, which will likely change in my mind 100 times until tomorrow....

Nothing too specific - will be soaking worms on a running sinker, which gives you a chance on literally everything in there. In order of hoping what takes it:

Cod, mythical yarra yellowbelly, big carp, reddies, macca's, eels!

Shrimp net is handy big shrimp coming out! Yabbies work well n a mate got a Macca on a trout spinner. Free bait is better than store bait

Shaping up like a typical Yarra session of the frustrating variety. Hits are coming thick and fast but so are the snags. In 20 minutes I've had 4 good enquiries and 3 reties of snagged and cut tackle.

Ahh in all it's glory!! So much snags in the Yarra every year there's a new tree in any given haunt that's fallen in n created a new home for something

Might head down this arvo
