Perth

Post by guppie12 » Mon Dec 23, 2019 9:16 pm

Sorry about the absence on the site, thought I better put in a report.

Went to Perth for 10 days last week, got there on the Wednesday 2 weeks ago. We planned to stay in Perth for 5 days and then go down to Mandurah for 5 days which I did well at in the winter.

While we were in Perth we weren’t able to do much fishing, we just went to the cricket day 1 day 2 and just walk around the city and things like that. only got out a few times, got to Rottnest and to north mole which I got 2 pike and 6 wrasse on aji plastics which was a bit of fun. Lost a big tailor there which snapped me off at the rocks.

At Rottnest flicked the aji stuff around for most of the day and had a lot of fun. Nothing big but got a few wrasse, 10 little skippy an old wife, and a few little tarwhine. Got smoked by something big (probably a big skippy or something) hooked a small squid aswell.

Then we got down to Mandurah and went fishing where we were staying which was dolphin quay. Very quite that day only getting a few little herring in a few hours then just went for a walk.

Day 2 at Mandurah had us travelling to Busselton, we got there around 9 and found a spot that looks like it will hold squid, first cast had 3 little squid follow the jig in so tied on a smaller jig as they didn’t take the bigger one that I had on originally, got them pretty easily. Then it got quite only getting a few trumpeter and a few tiny skippy then around 4 o’clock got a medium sized squid then nothing for an hour then got a decent sized squid. We left there at around 6 and grabbed dinner then went to Mandurah quay which is where I stayed last time, got there around 8. Had a really big run from something probably a mulloway as that is what we were catching last time but unfortunately popped the hook.

Day 3, went down to dawesville cut and put in some bait rods, pretty much straight away had a squid take the bait, unfortunately didn’t have the another rod ready yet so had to tie a leader and stuff, couldn’t find him. The squid wasn’t bad aswell. Unfortunately only got a tarwhine there then headed back to Mandurah quay and got a few small tailor on the aji stuff unfortunately no mulloway

Day 4 pretty horrible day so just ended up going to the aquarium and after that went back to dawesville cut at night and absolutely smashed the herring getting around 80 in 2 hours on the aji stuff they were pretty good size too

Day 5 unfortunately had to leave for Melbourne and didn’t have time to go for a fish as we had to drop the car off at 12 and our flight was at 5. Got back to Melbourne at midnight.

Yes I’m addicted to aji fishing
Cheers

Forgot to mention I got a kgw at dawesville and it was so hot that at Busselton as soon as the squid touched the jetty the would pretty much cook and hooked a big mulloway a metal at dawesville but lost it at the bank

Nice variety caught, those herring (Tommy Ruff as I know them by being an ex Sth Aussie) are great to eat, also a top snapper bait..
Enjoyed the report and thanks for sharing it..

cheers
