Another PB wild brown trout for the season.

Post by meppstas » Thu Jan 14, 2021 11:38 am

Spent a couple of hours in the river today, had four hits for just the one solid rainbow (approx 600 gms) hooked which I finished up losing while messing around getting the camera out much to my disgust.. That rainbow had I landed it would have been a season best rainbow too but it wasn't to be. On the way back to the car I had a few casts in a small stream, it was there I caught & released my best trout of the season, a 1.75 gm (3 lb 13 ozs) brown that absolutely smashed the little Mepps #00 (1.5 gram) Stone Fly Bug spinner.. Thankfully the 4 lb fine Platypus Super 100 mono line held strong.. In the end I went home very happy, the fishing gods saved the day for me.. :tu:

cheers
Adrian..

What a cracking fish mate, and perfect condition too. To me there’s something special about the hook jawed trout. Awesome report and great pics as usual.

Thanks guys., large trout like that in a small stream don't come around all that often, I never bypass any waters because one never knows what may lay in them.. it's not the first time in my years of trout fishing I done it either and I still get a thrill out of it each time too.. This fish was something special as it's also the biggest trout I've picked up in this little stream, my previous bet in this stream in the twenty years I've fished it was 720 grams..
Yes it did put up a fight, with the water being so shallow put the odds in my favor though, had it been a deeper run the results may have been in the trout favor..
Just added a few more photos too, had a problem earlier as they were too large for the site..
cheers

great looking Brown there mate, must have given you a good workout on the light gear, he looks like he's been gorging on insects for quite a few years there

It did test the light gear out that's for sure, it was in top condition too.. over the past two months there's been some massive insect hatching happening, even that day there were thousands of black spinners hovering above the water and lots of caddis moths along the river banks.. plenty of trout food around at the moment.. great time of the season for the fly fisher.. :wt:

cheers
