Coffs Harbour to Tweeds

Just thought I would share a few pictures from our trip last week up to north of NSW.

I only had a telescopic rod that I took up with me and mainly used chicken breast and prawns for bait.

Some great places to fish along the coast in all those inlets, running sinkers were the set up to use up there. I think I was the only one using a paternoster rig (I didn’t have any ball sinkers).

Got bream at almost every spot, and what I think is a cod just outside of Ballina airport. I was chasing whiting garfish etc. which everyone seemed to be catching in similar fishing spots but I didn’t have much luck.

One thing that this trip has ignited is the need to finally jump on the soft plastics and lures (would make life much easier when on the move instead of carrying bait). If anyone has any tips on some all rounder plastics and lures I should try please let me know. Also what sizes?

One day I will travel up there.

A 2-4 kg rod, 2500 reel and 6 to 8 lb line. Zman grub 2.5in in motor oil is a good all rounder plastic. Use 1/8 #1/0 jig head or down to 1/16 in shallow water. Plus sfactor. That can catch most species landbased.

Gulp Turtleback worm with the lightest jig head you can manage. Everything from Flathead, Bream, trevally, whiting, pinkies, taylor etc will eat it.

Thanks for the tip guys. I’ll definitely grab some and start trying them out.

Blows my mind, anywhere you drop a line there is a bite, a catch some action. And then I think, I can go to the piers here and Vic for weeks and not even a bite.

I blame the piers in vic, but it’s just probably me who can’t catch a fish hahaha

I feel you.
Metro areas can be very challenging. Possibly due to high fishing pressure, etc.

The rock fishing is exactly the same. Some amazingly good fish but just constantly consistent all round.

The last two trips I went on this year (WA and NSW), you could not cast a line anywhere you went without pulling something out of the water. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though all the fish were very basic and no real keepers, it’s just fun to bring something up :D

I amthankful for having a boat to use in the bay here.
