Howdy there everyone!

My name's Daniel. Recently I was out fishing near Warburton in the Yarra, caught a snag and then snapped my rod trying to bring it back in. Pictures below. Snapped in the upper half of the rod.

Is this fixable? I bought it from a BCF, would they be able to fix it for a reasonable price? What's the best way to fix a snapped rod?



Any help appreciated!

Take it to a local independent tackle shop.
Better to let the professionals deal with a rod break
Usually not very expensive to repair

Out of curiosity which type of Shimano rod is it? Bayrock has given you good advice, repairing thin walled graphite rods can be tricky unless its the very tip. In the long run you may be better off upgrading to a sturdier rod. You could take it back to BCF and see what they say.

If it's less than $100 rod, probably best to buy a new one. Otherwise, you can bring and ask an independent tackle shop like Bayrock said. Last time I did that, the tackle shop called Shimano and got me a brand new piece for half of the full rod price.

Send Shimano an email, I broke a rod tip and it was my fault, I told them I was prepared to pay for another top half of the rod but they sent me another top half free, they are good like that...

Looks like a graphite rod which wont be the same after fixing,will be a bit stiff at that area

Will be second rate after fixing, but can be useful as an additional bait rod if required rather that first choice lure rod. You can do a a DIY fix by cutting out a section then using the natural taper to allow you to "telescope" one end inside the other. Sand and epoxy them together and reinforce by binding with braid covered in a smear of epoxy. It will compromise the correct alignment of guides, you may even have to leave one out. Rod will be shorter, but it will still be strong and catch fish.

Sorry to see your broken rod.
Lesson learnt, if it's well and truly snagged, break or cut the line.
A lot cheaper than a broken rod.
If you've never been shown, rod parallel to the line, so all pressure is at the reel, not on rod, walk away, line will break somewhere between reel and hook.
I know some of you are saying "everybody knows that", but never assume.

I have fitted a rod like a steel knitting needle into a hollow rod and pushed the end piece back over like a sleeve, secured with the appropiate glue. A good trim up gave me a usable rod, not the go to as someone said but still quite adequate for Flatties and such.
Depends on the thickness at the break cos the steel insert needs to be in contact with the rod walls.
