Don Lake, Healesville
Hit Don Lake in Healesville this morning for a couple of hours. It was stocked with 400 trout a couple of weeks ago. After a couple of hours all I had to show for it was two lost tassie devils and zero fish. Only fish I saw for the morning was one a cormorant grabbed, looked like a nice pan size.
But have to say the lake is in a great setting and even with no fish it was not a bad way to spend the morning.
Has anyone else ever tried their luck there?

Re: Don Lake, Healesville
mmm it is a stocked lake, so in theory the fish are there just have to work out the secret to catching them.....guess that is part of the fun.
Hoping to make a trip back there over the cup weekend, lures and bait this time. Will let you know if we have any luck at all.

Re: Don Lake, Healesville
Is it possible to cast a full fly line there?
There is no such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer.

Re: Don Lake, Healesville
Yes it should be easy enough. Most of the lake has good clear shore line.
Not something i have tried in well over 20 years, but maybe it is the trick to catching them there.

Re: Don Lake, Healesville
excellent will watch for an update. I'm hoping that I can get a leave pass to get back there Sunday, so any updates or tips will be appreciated
Re: Don Lake, Healesville
I was there Monday just gone.
Flicking lures as I walked around the lake I managed to catch a mini redfin and dropped another 2.
There was a pelican going nuts but he came up fishless from what I saw.

I was using spinners.
I went back today and caught 10 Redfin. 7 on bait and 3 on the spinner.
They were all tiny, under 10cm except 1 that was about 35.
