A bit off topic but I spoke with a guy on portarlington pier and he said he had just come from st Helens break wall where he watched a guy reel in a 8kg snapper this week daylight hours.Sebb wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 9:34 amLike Maz said.happyfriggincamper wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 9:18 pmBeen watching and waiting for some cheap but OK brand combos for fishing the salt from the kayak. Picked up this Okuma Zman Z-Series 702ML 30 2-4kg Spin Combo from Anaconda for $59.
Assumed the reel was a 3000 size, as it was listed as a 30 - but it looks more like a 2000. Does okuma do smaller size codes or something?
Most reel has specs details on how much line it can hold, drag, etc. I usually just judge it myself by looking at the details, feel the size and weight.
No go get them Geelong's winter red!

More lockdowns = more spending
*miller from pre lockdown 2
Going to try and save my fishing spending for a bit and put it towards something bigger but first I need some braid

Re: Show us your purchases!
Picked up some budget but hopefully solid combos to serve my saltwater bait fishing needs in the kayak for years to come.
Penn Battle II 3000 size reel + 3-6kg 7ft Penn Ally rod
Penn Spinfisher SSVI 4500 size reel + 4-8kg 6ft Penn Mariner rod
Never owned Penn, but chose them as they seem to have a decent saltwater rep and these combos came in under $300 total. Switching the handle to left hand wind, the unscrew thread is on the handle side...never seen that before in a reel.
