Went to my local outdoors retailer today to grab some stuff for yakking + camping. Grabbed one of those UV resistant breathable face shield thingos for sunny days out kayaking and hiking, still trying to figure out how to wear it without looking like a complete twit lol.

Also grabbed a new pair of hiking books, gonna see some use while bush bashing looking for trout streams I hope. Bought them for the little ~40km buller hike i've got coming next week, they need some breaking in. Thankfully they're not leather, won't take nearly as long. Also comes with a waterproofing and repair kit which is nice, hoping they last a while through all my fishing/camping escapades. Hopefully the UV shield will keep my face warm and dry in case we get any snow or rain up there (pretty likely)

I’ve been dabbling in a bit of deer hunting recently. This combined with the fact that the kids are a bit older we’ve done a bit of family camping. I haven’t enjoyed needing to fill the car to the gills and still not have room for bikes or other gear.

With this in mind I designed up a 4wd trailer and had a mate build it for me. Electric brakes. 1400kg rating. 4wd suspension and a 4wd coupling with lots of flexibility. I matched the wheel pattern of my car so I can carry extra spares. Over the next few weeks I’ll get it registered, install flooring and tool boxes and buy a rooftop tent and 270 awning. Should be a little weapon for extended trips with the family or getting away hunting with the boys.

At Eildon a couple months back we had 50mm of rain over 3 days. Will be nice not sleeping in the mud...

Should be pretty cool once finished.

I know the feeling about loading the car up. I have to take the boat when ever we go away just to take all the crap with us .

Good start mate
Only thing I would have done its had the axle slight more forward to reduce ball weight once fully built and loaded up.
But that's just me

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
