I'm in the market for a 10 footer surf... How do you rate the penn prevails to the Penn allegiance rods ? is one any better than the other ? why did you pick the allegiance ?

Don't go 10'.
Not ideal for purpose.

He is using a 9ft rod not a 10ft rod, I makes a difference in this situation.

I thick your right Brett, a quick search of this forum and a google search of web fishing sites seem to favor 9' for surf / lures.

( Also Carl and Dougie have always advocated to use 9 footers for surf / lure use. )

I was more interested in earl's decision on the allegiance rod over the prevail models.

What size reel suits a 9ft rod? A Shimmy 5000 or a Daiwa 3000?

I like the design and it was 40% off when i got it. Lol.

Have you seen how big the rod guides are of the penn prevail? I have 3 x 11 footer penn prevails for rock fishing and i hate the big guides. I plan to replace them all.

Carl, you like long butts (no pun intended). Penn will suit your taste. I bought the allegiance as i injured my shoulder. I need long butt too to help me with the casting. It works for me.

I now plan to sell my 2 x nano impact 9 footers.
