Just hook bigger fish......

Re: The Gunnamatta trudge.
First time I ate some salmon, we had been out on a charter and caught heaps, as we were leaving the skipper said take what you want, pretty much every one except us, left them behind, and I only took a few.DougieK wrote:People who dont' like the taste of salmon are doing it wrong or just plain dont like fish.ducky wrote:I tried salmon a few months ago. Shitcanned it to a few mates who told me to try it. They gave me some instructions which I tried Monday morning with a salmon from gunners and it was awesome.
Slit the salmons throat with a knife. Stick it in the sand upside down and let it pump the blood out. Gut and gill it shortly after. When home fillet it. Split the fillets down the lateral line and remove the red meat. Shallow fry in a simple egg and flour batter wth salt and pepper.
Absolutely delicious. Will be keeping more from now on.
Must be eaten that day though. Fish was bloody easy to clean in the surf break. Wash it out in the water and throw it in the bag. Easier then making a mess at home.
try crushed salt and vineger chips instead of flour as well. Freaking delicious, but it MUST be fresh.
Got home, cooked them and myself and the kids loved them.
Next time I get a few, I plan to smoke them, when I find out where I put my smoker. :doh1:

Re: The Gunnamatta trudge.
Ther are two basic methods. If bait fishing find a gutter or deep hole and stay out hoping the fish find you.
The next is too walk the beach, hoping to find a school of fish.

IMO the most consistent spot is about 2km on the lighthouse side of the stairs. There's a little ridge of rock that sticks out in the middle of the beach, fish the NW side of them for 200m up and down.
But yeah, spinning, walk up and down until you find them, when they stop biting, start walking again.
