Spoke to Oatsy a while ago, (who is a superb salmon fisho), he reckoned worst salmon season in 9-10 years.
It's not from lack of trying either. I went dozens and dozens of times for just a few! Come to think of it the year before that wasn't the best either but the year before that was good.
By locally i mean from port Melbourne through to st kilda for me.

also just in regards to the current beach landscape, from what i saw on low tide there are 2 fantastic gutters, one just in front of the wooden stairs and the other infront of the sandy path from behind the surf club. Further down the beach there was a nice hole between the rocks at the far end (cape schanck side) and few average areas inbetween, but those 3 were the stand out zones.

You will find that it changes after bad weather and more structure is cut out.
