Torquay again at last…

Post by Matty H » Sun Dec 19, 2021 3:01 pm

Imperfect forecast with easterly's on the go, decided to have a go off Torquay Friday 17th. Launched in reasonable conditions and motored around to Bell’s, trolled part way for zip. Had to get in close to find fish on the sounder, but only reef species biting, no pinkies. Did land a southern blue devil fish here though, never caught one before. About 35cm, and the blue spots were reminding me of coral trout, but too pretty to eat so just a quick pic and release. Moved around to Jan juc, searched for signal, and again reef species, along with hordes of 25cm pinkies, but no legal - very unusual in this usually reliable spot. Moved off onto sand and managed a couple of keeper flatties, one good’un at 45cm, to at least get a feed. Beach skid I made to retrieve the boat again made the process easy, letting me beach the boat and not having to unhook the trailer.
Am trying to get a pic of the devil fish up too.
Cheers, Mat.

That is a good looking fish. Reminds me of those little fighting fish, but on steroids
