Winter reddies

Post by laoganma » Sat Jul 09, 2022 10:28 am

Hi everyone,

I've been fishing my local hole for reddies these past weeks and have came back with nothing, not even a bite, in contrast to when it was warmer where I would usually catch something.

Any tips on catching reddies in winter, or should I give up?

I'm using little 2.5in soft plastics.

Cheers

Move around and fish different areas to what you fished in summer. Good chance they are just holding deeper\in other areas.
Fish slow, try using slightly bigger profiled baits.
There is always more to learn , fish to catch , places to see and friends to make.

Usually in winter the smaller redfin slow down and the bigger units come out to play. I have reddies in my dam and they pretty much stopped biting 4 to 5 weeks ago. I can still entice the bigger ones on very slow fished soft plastics. Keep changing it up but whatever you are trying slow is the way to go

isn't it illegal to keep reddies on your property?

Your not allowed to put them in dams but they get in there anyway by themselves. Most suburban lakes and dams have a self sustaining population. The eggs get in dams by birds flying from dam to dam with eggs attached to their legs without knowing

My dam is fed by a creek and overflows into a bigger creek which has redfin in it, when in flood the redfin move around
