did you go to America to catch those?
Florida, I caught so many different fish, every estate lake has bass and blue gill in them. I have caught aussie bass to 50cm and they go hard, I only use 6lb line and lkeader, if you caught a Large mouth at that size, it would just snap the line. 15lb minimum oiver there

If only there were some sort of native species that could be stocked instead.
Agreed.
But they either can’t seem to breed enough of them ,
Or they just get picky about sticking then into certain pockets for biodiversity reasons.

Plus a lot of these stinky suburban holes are such poor water q , only the Ferals can survive
The poor water quality is from the carp stirring up the mud on the bottom. Get rid of the carp and more aquatic plants will grow and it’ll be more conducive to other fish species
My secret carp spot is full of them and the water is very clear. The Yarra's colour is due to the type of sediment found in the area. Many urban lakes are designed to catch stormwater and runoff. Not saying that carp don't cause problems because when you watch them feed they stir up plenty of mud, but lack of water clarity is not an issue exclusively caused by carp.

In the Murray, in particular, it's the constant rise and fall of the river that causes the muddy water, we have the same problem in the Werribee river above the weir, it's never clean anymore because they keep sending water to the farms and the river drops dramatically, then they do an environmental flow and that dirties it up even more

They should introduce Large Mouth Bass, that would be good
Why?
You have to catch one to understand why?
I wouldn’t mind catching one but not at the expense of our native fisheries.
If you ever get the chance to catch one, you'll forget all about our native fish. I've caught quite a few, as well as Peacock Bass, stripers, and a heap of Talapia, nothing we have comes close to those fish.
I’d be interested to compare but I think our natives should take precedence over introduced species.

There used to be tilapia in hazelwood poundage weren’t anything special to be honest.

Interesting perspective did you ask him how they were fed prior to carp being introduced?

If I had to guess, by snacking on native fish that roamed wild and free. Without dams or changes in river paths ruining water q.

Would’ve been a mighty sight for sure.

It’s crazy how far they travel and spawn.
So much has changed now
