Kill them all imo, native fish pull just as hard and there's bound to be something native that tastes as good as trout or redfin.
Yeah for sure. But some suburban lakes there’s really no viable native angling target. Especially man made lakes.

dam i never thought about that. if say a lake only has red fin and carp and every one who catches one kills it then eventualy there wont be any fish to catch. great point mate you really got me thinking for some reason :gj:

Yeah that **** , hit home hard for me when we had the 5k lockdown. I don’t live near the salt and there isn’t any place fisheries stocks around me

Agreed.
But they either can’t seem to breed enough of them ,
Or they just get picky about sticking then into certain pockets for biodiversity reasons.

Plus a lot of these stinky suburban holes are such poor water q , only the Ferals can survive

They should introduce Large Mouth Bass, that would be good
Why?
You have to catch one to understand why?

The poor water quality is from the carp stirring up the mud on the bottom. Get rid of the carp and more aquatic plants will grow and it’ll be more conducive to other fish species

Unsure about that.
Carp love weedy ponds and Lilly pads
They can survive in mud holes.
I reckon they just catch a bad rep for water q.

Albert park lakes got a pretty high carp density and crystal clear water.

I think it’s down to bio filtration, flow and poor oxygen.

Especially round the new estates, they just dig a hole and fill it lol

agreed, though i didn't put trout because although it is an introduced species it doesn't really affect the water ways, correct me if I'm wrong

I had a look into this for an assignment a while ago. Trout provide millions of dollars to the economy because of they are viewed as a sports fish and have a lower footprint than carp and Redfin. There hasn't been too much research into the affects of trout on the ecosystem in Australia but allot has been done in the US, the trout have massive effects on the small fish populations ( galaxis and juvenile natives) also a big strain on frog alpine frog populations. I think about like pre trout there was a niche of native species in those waters that trout now dominate.

I wouldn’t mind catching one but not at the expense of our native fisheries.

If you ever get the chance to catch one, you'll forget all about our native fish. I've caught quite a few, as well as Peacock Bass, stripers, and a heap of Talapia, nothing we have comes close to those fish.
