Headed up to CL tonight for a cheeky little fish after work. Had a few timid bites, but only managed to land one small one fishing close to the bank. I would have stayed longer but I was getting hungry and wanted to go home to watch the rest of the Big Bash. Geez I miss living on the banks of Gardner's Creek...

Carp should not be returned to the water but should not just be left on the banks to rot. Carp are poor eating, although some people do enjoy them, in spite of their frequent muddy taste and large number of Y shaped bones.

Was an absolute smashing day for fishing, so I decided to do just that! Despite the sunny conditions, it was very quiet when I arrived, had a few timid bites, but only landed the one. I moved around a bit until I found a spot that looked 'fishy' and which also - conveniently - happened to be located in the shade. The fish weren't exactly going spastic, but they were biting in fits and starts - often getting one or two, quiet period then getting one or two again. Still looking for Mr. Big in Cherry, but catching something is still better than catching nothing. Ended up with 10 juveniles all up.

Cherry Lake

The lake was created in the 1960s as a flood retention basin for residential expansion in Altona and Brooklyn. Prior to this, it was a motor racing circuit, constructed in 1954 at a cost of 35,000 pounds.

Levees were constructed on the south and east side of the lake with a spillway and channel which discharges excess water to Port Phillip Bay. These help to maintain a relatively constant water level of around one metre in depth. An additional higher levee bank was constructed to prevent floodwaters from Kororoit Creek sweeping across the lake toward residential areas.

Cherry Lake is part of historical coastal wetlands in Altona, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The wetlands were converted to a lake with construction of retaining walls, levees, and flow channels. The lake and surrounding reserve is an important wildlife habitat and popular recreational destination.

Nah...I used to, but ended up running out of room. Now I dispose of them 'thoughtfully' either by chucking them in the bin, or eviscerating them before returning them to the water, or chucking them in the reeds...
