When it rains, it pours. Did more harvesting in my new-found honey-hole, including a huge chunk just shy of 80cm. He was just sitting there. I caught him within 20seconds of showing up. I thought I sight-casted him, as he definitely saw my bait and swam over to it, and after about 20 seconds of him hovering over it, I assumed he just ate it but was unaware he was hooked (as my line was very slack). It wasn't until I landed him that I realised he was very lightly hooked in the pelvic fin. As I was reeling him in he had about 3 or 4 mates that were just as big - if not bigger than him. Clarification: it was actually a 'she' given the huge belly full of eggs.
I wish I had got a better pic of the Carpus Collosus - it was huge (and heavy), but I was trying to be discreet so not to attract a crowd, although that failed somewhat as some kids saw it and started badgering me as to how and where I caught it. Anyway, it was a nice warm day, the Carp were on the bite, and I caught a huge one. Couldn't have asked for more.

Went back to my new-found 'new' spot trying to replicate last sessions results. It didn't go to plan, despite the good weather and increased confidence levels - but I guess that's fishing. Only got one, but I was getting a few bites - small hooks seem to be the trick in this locale as the Carp don't seem to 'strike' as opposed to just 'take' the bait. I think I got this one inadvertently when I was just checking my line.

A quick trip out to Taylors Lake resulted in 2 carp and a Cod. Unfortunately there was water on my lens and I didn't get a good pic of the Cod...

Carps favour slow-flowing rivers and lakes and can survive extremes of temperature, low concentrations of oxygen and high salinity. They feed mainly on aquatic plants and insects, and on bottom sediments, which they suck and strain, sometimes increasing the turbidity of water in confined areas.

Headed out to Natimuk today for a bit of a bike ride. Rode from the town out to Mt. Arapiles to Mitre Rock, 'round Mitre Lake, then headed to Natimuk Lake and back into town. Did about 37kms all up.
On the way back to Stawell, I stopped by my favourite spot along the Wimmera River and caught a Carp (as well a couple of silver perch).

Condition were perfect - a nice warm day, but the Carp didn't exactly see it that way. Got this little fella and one when I packed up to go home.
Same size, but I assure you, they are different fish!
