Ovens river trout
Ovens river trout
Hi guys, heading up to harrietville this week and wanted to try for some trout, was wonder what is recommended to use, I have some spinners, some super trout tsunami thing, tassie devils, and powerbait nuggets at my disposal
Also wondering if anyone would be nice enough to share any spots with me, because anywhere I go seems too shallow for any fish and is really hard to cast too
Any help appreciated, thanks!

Re: Ovens river trout
shallow, hard to cast, sounds like trout steams to me.
you might be surprised in just how shallow water you can catch a trout in. bank access is usually crap, wading is the go. you might be able to access the river at a road bridge.
shallow diving hardbodies like a rapala f5 or your super trout, small soft plastics with a light jig head, spinners will all work.

Re: Ovens river trout
tassies can work, im not sure they r the best for small streams though.
powerbait, im sure it could work, i think worms might be a better option in streams, powerbait seems to work well in dams where stockies have been released.

Google then print "Ovens River Access" plenty of Information. Per above:- Shallow diving hardbodies like a rapala f5 ( Brown or Rainbow Patterns ) or your super trout, small soft plastics with a light jig head, spinners will all work. Fish the edge of fast water as well as any slack water behind rocks / boulders as well as undercuts in banks. Fish light - 4lb line max. Good Luck.

Re: Ovens river trout
With 10Lb line you should be able to land at least a 15lb fish - Not in these waters - Try 4Lb Maxima Green - My go 2 line for all my trout fishing.

4-6lb line, meppa spinner, rapala f5, plenty you can use. Bright and upstream is considered a good trout fishery. I've seen ans caught a big trout in water less than a foot.
