St Leonards Pier Calamari - Great session - 30/10/2022

Post by Andrews » Sun Oct 30, 2022 4:06 pm

Hey everyone,

It's been a month since I've last fished St Leonard's due to being out of town re: flood support, but with the long weekend, it was nice to head back prior to moving back down this way. The morning was stunning conditions, low winds, full sun and plenty of action. I'll be posting quite a few videos of the session, hookups, etc on my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/fishingandrew/?hl=en

The calamari were in good numbers, with quite a few trevallies also being caught.

Conditions -
Time: 9.30 - 11.00
Weather: Early morning, full sun.
Wind: Low winds from NW
Tide: Run out, crystal clear water.
I selected my #2.5, Yamshita EGI-OH Live Search to take advantage of the conditions which is in a natural pilchard silver tape and within a few casts we had action!
I spotted two smaller squid cruising amongst the shallows, only to have this much larger model rise up from the weed and begin pulling drag!
Took my time with landing it only to follow it up with one of the smaller models following - check the size difference, it measured a 35CM hood.

It then became quiet before I spotted a smaller squid stalking down the jig! After hooking into it, five squid began to follow and four casts later I landed four more, with the smallest getting spooked. By this time it was getting close to 11, the wind was increasing in strength, and lunch seemed like the best alternative! Seven total today. Check a few photos from the session.

Cheers mate, swung by again this-morning.
Water was pretty dirty (30cm vis), caught the first squid within fifteen minutes then headed home before the rain hit.
Saw a nice 2-3kg snapper caught.

If I wasn't stuck in Melbourne this weekend I would definitely be fishing, good run of snapper and squid at the moment.
