Portarlington 17th

Post by Nude up » Tue Oct 18, 2022 5:14 pm

Went out yesterday targeting gummies we were in 12.5 mt off port. We had big baits out whole squid salmon fillets.
In-between we were flicking soft plastics. The big baits caught 3 port jacksons 2 banjo's meanwhile the soft plastics caught 12 keeper flathead and 4 gurnard with 1 the biggest I have caught.

How do you clean the gurnard? Got a few of those spiky bois and just casually snipped the line above the hook if it wasn't flatty flickable.

I've heard they are tasty but I don't trust myself to handle them without being stabbed.

I snip/snap off the dorsal fins after I’ve brain spiked it. The other fins can get you too so you still need to be careful.

When filleting put a folded up tea towel over its head and grip the fish through that as you take the fillets off.

They taste nice, the meat is really firm - hence the name poor man’s lobster
