Thought I'd drop in a report to share with everyone. Went for a fish last weekend at my favourite pier, saw quite a few fishos getting squid so I chucked on a white 2.5 Yamashitta jig and bounced it around. Landed 2 small squid, then it went quiet so I set up a small rod with a running sinker and used some squid tentacles as bait from my earlier catch. Not long before I landed 3 nice whitings, then again it went quiet on the whiting as it did on the squid. During this time I've spotted a school of fish under the light cruising around and thought maybe I'll have a crack at them instead, quickly rigged up a 1/8 jighead to a zman 2.5" white shad like plastic. Whipped it out and slow rolled it back instantly enticed a few hits but no hook ups, so I changed to aji jigheads 0.8g and some aji minnow style plastic. Same technique, this time instantly connected to the bite, out comes a nice Tommy rough, and it was 1 after another untill I had about a dozen in the esky then I stopped chasing them as I saw big makerels lurking in the surface, casted at them instead and was having a blast lifting them out one after the other, much better fight then Tommy's for sure. In amongst the school of makerel was a big pike and it took my plastic by surprise and gave me quite a challenge landing it but I managed to have it on the pier in very short time without the aid of a landing net. By midnight the wind picked up and temperature was near freezing so I pulled the pin and left them biting.

That's a good sized mackerel.
Nice feed. Fresh bait always best 'ey.
What's your rod for ajing?
Casting 0.8g in windy condition is tricky.

Looks like you've had a beauty of a session, and you're spot on with using the aji style plastics, perfect size for them. There has been heaps under the big light in recent weeks.
