St Leonards Pier Calamari - Solid Numbers 18/4/2022 & 19/4/2022

Post by Andrews » Thu Apr 21, 2022 7:36 pm

Hey everyone,

Update to my previous post sharing two bag out, 10 squid solo sessions on 13/4/2022 & 14/4/2022.
viewtopic.php?f=153&t=26093

The squid are still running and though not a bag out session they've been active enough to keep us busy.

Monday & Tuesday 6:00-7:30PM
Heavy cloud, no visible moon
Run in tide, clear with a strong current
Moderate E/S winds, light at times
White 2.5 jig

Monday
Straight to the light and the conditions were perfect, cool breeze, nice current and a clear tide.
Within 15 minutes we started smashing these out and by 7:30 I had my six and my friend has his six, so we dipped. The squid were aggressive, but once you started pulling apart the numbers they'd turn real hesitant. We ended up letting our jigs rest on the bottom to entice the strike.

Tuesday
Rinse and repeat, smaller jigs did the damage and slow smooth action made for the best hookups. Often the squid would loose interest, for three whips to the surface and long sink was the go-to. Six more done. Snook have been showing up and really killing the squid bite, may move away from he lights until they dip.

Fished again 24/4/2022, only managed three and saw another three caught. Very quiet night, they just didn't really show up.

@Bowl, Yeah they'd been really spooking the squid. It's definitely started to cool down of the squid action at the pier this week.

@Lightningx, Thanks mate! Always fun chasing these!
