St Leonards Calamari on fire- 09/11/2021
Hey everyone,
Sharing another beauty of a session chasing the calamari @ St Leonards Pier. Managed eight nice calamari. Friend managed 5 and 4.
CONDITIONS
Slight S Breeze,
Run in/slack/out tide,
Fast current,
Overcast evening 15C, 5pm-7:40pm
Started with the natural silver foil as there was the occasional beam of sunlight hitting the water and within a few casts managed a nice smaller calamari. The very next cast saw a big squid follow it in, before leaving the jig. Seeing as they were pretty hesitant today I decided to swap over to the brighter Yamashita EGI LIVE SEARCH orange jig with the rattle. A couple casts later and we're on again! Like the first squid this calamari followed the jig in, but only decided to strike once the jig was left to rest close to the pier. This became the trend for the night and is exactly what secured us the larger numbers over everyone else.

This pretty much continued all evening, cast the jig over the weed, three hops and repeat until you're 15M from the pier - then let it sink almost to the bottom and you'll hook up. The view wasn't bad either. Again, once either one of us hooked up, we all hooked into squid, Just over and over every 3rd or so. The winds started blowing and I called the session with eight calamari.

Nice catch. I have had great success with a yamashita silver body blue back with a rattle in lately out fishing my mates by a large amount.

Thanks Nude up, that's awesome to hear! Yeah they've been loving it at the pier when it's full sun, once it came over cloudy we all successfully rocked orange jigs.
Cheers Lightningx, always awesome having a session like this. They couldn't get enough of the jigs that night. Nothing huge but solid numbers.
Haha, thanks Sebb, it's definitely proved itself over quite a few sessions as a solid overcast weather jig.

Thanks Seniorfisho, it's always good getting a near bag quickly from the pier. Hopefully it's a good sign of things to come.
