On the hunt for some Gars!

Post by nooga27 » Sat Jun 19, 2021 8:52 am

Hey all,
I’m trying to get myself into garfish fishing. Never targeted them before but I’m very keen to give it a crack and get onto some.

Just wondering if anyone knows an area that’s been producing solidly from Geelong to Point Lonsdale/anywhere on the bellarine!

Thanks heaps :)

St Leonard’s has been pretty productive for the garfish this past week, managed 60+ over two sessions.
Thursday night was pretty quiet, they were around but I agree with Denis saying the water was a little dirty for them. Next few days will be better. Pier should be packed this weekend with people with the same idea.

Clifton Springs boat ramp have a few nice ones, they’re larger but not as plentiful.

Geelong has been good, not sure exactly where though.

Went to St Leonards this morning, still a bit dirty. Saw a man targetting gars and donut he said, even with burley and all, not a single fish. Nil. Zilch.

Shame to see that, Thursday the water would have been about the same and there were garfish around and splashing but I didn't see a single one caught. Did you see much else caught, any squid?

The other night took the young fella down to black rock to secure a few but only managed a few micro pinkies and gobble guts. Should have hit up a pier to make use of the month long burley trails but figured best to avoid the spicy cough spreaders where possible.
