St Leonards Calamari 20/10/2020
Hey Everyone,
These south westerly winds have kept the water crystal clear and the squid active. Past fortnight we exclusively had been getting bigger squid in that 30CM+ range but since Monday 19/10/2020, a plenty mix of smaller 20CM+ models have been actively hunting our jigs!
Monday 19/10/2020 Overcast, rainy, south westerly winds with a crystal clear rising tide.
Squid were quiet, snuck out in the afternoon for an hour with the hope the winds would make the water clear.
Within minutes on the drop this thumper squid grabbed the jig we were on!
Dinner was caught and I headed home preparing for the better weather Tuesday.
Bang on 30CM hood and put up a nice fight! Tuesday 20/10/2020, Partly cloudy turning full sun, south westerly on a run in crystal clear tide.
Squid #1 First cast and bang! We're on, this is where those smaller squid started appearing after being absent.
Since the clouds were coming and going I went the crystal white with that pearlescent colouring, works a charm when the light hits it. Squid #2 Moved spots deeper as the shallows have been pretty quiet and whack! This monster grabbed the jig on the drop in mid-water, he was far out and only started pulling drag when we got closer to the pier! Measured a solid 32CM and he was wide, broke my net landing on the pier. Squid #3 small shoal of squid moved in that were super picky, they'd chase the jigs tapping them but never actually striking! Eventually we hooked up! Squid #4, smaller one that grabbed the jig on the drop. Solid session ending with 4 squid, kept the big one and have away the smaller ones. Heading out again today.
Had word that last night a mini-bus of people turned up, clearly from Melbourne and the police ended up giving a fine to all of the 8 individuals that were there. They were told to head back to Melbourne, odds are they'll fish somewhere else or return after dark. Shame to see.

Thanks Happyfriggincamper! I do enjoy my squid photography, haha!
For sure! There's plenty around at the moment, yesterday supposedly was a little quiet but I reckon today will be awesome fishing. I'll fish the run out/slack/run in tides.

Thanks! It was pretty quiet this-afternoon, pulled one nice squid from out far on the drop and that was the only one I saw caught in two hours. Called it a day.
