Pinkies, Flathead, KGW Bellarine Kayak - Saturday 1 February 2025

Post by Andrews » Sat Feb 01, 2025 4:29 pm

Hey all,

Hope we're having a good week.
Punched out again for my weekly seafood run locally!

Location and Conditons:
Bellarine, Saturday 1 February 2025, 7.00am - 10.00am.
Light to gusty winds blowing NE.
Run in tide.

Experience

Pinkies were the target but the highlight was definately the by-catch.

Flicking my trusty 4" worm, there was no hesitation and within a couple of casts, my rod buckled under the weight of the first pinkie of the day.

The action followed with another three, although they were just shy of the mark.

This session wasn't as fast-paced as last weekend's frenzy.
The cooler water temperature in this spot might have played a role, but the shallows still had a hot bite.

As the tide dropped, pushing deeper seemed the best move. Within a few casts, we were back into the pinkies, landing two more keepers.

Casting over broken ground and hopping the plastic lures yielded immediate success, with pinkies smashing the lures on the first drop. This was only followed by a solid bite, and I reeled in a nice 45cm rock flathead, which had taken a liking to the plastic.

As the wind picked up, I drifted across a sandbar, gently twitching the lure for KGW. Despite numerous undersized fish, persistence paid off, and I ended the day with a successful haul.
