Land based structures at Point Henry

Post by scanny » Sat Aug 22, 2020 8:35 am

Anyone know if there are legally accessible structures for land based fishing out at Point Henry? Not much out there but seems like it could be an okay spot for when the Geelong waterfront gets packed out.

Some of kayak launching spots look okay but might waders or beach setup to get out past the edges.

It’s pretty muddy, shallow and weedy. I’ve launched the yak there but unless the give anglers access to the pier it wouldn’t be high on my list of land based locations.

If you’re kayaking there be mindful that the shipping channel is really close and the wake from the ships will break as soon as it hits the shallows.

Cheers guys. Sounds like more trouble than it’d be worth so I’ll give it a miss. Would be fantastic if they opened the warf to land based fishers, thing goes out a long way.

Years ago they opened Point Cook pier to anglers on a trial basis.
The pier was turned into a tip.
The straw that broke the camels back was when some cold anglers lit a fire on the end of the pier one night and set the pier on fire, i kid you not.
Unfortunately, as usual, the minority ruin it for everyone else.
I fish the Lee at Portland a bit and have noticed that even with bins provided that rubbish is still dropped all over the place.

I went and checked out that area awhile ago and was quite disappointed LB. Was shallow, very weedy and muddy like mentioned. Thought it might be good for spearing but that wasn’t an option either.
Cheers.

Is it worth going out on the yak? What's generally on offer around there- flatties and squid?

Squid mostly, it’s pretty much a constant cover of weed.

I think there’s some whiting spots not far off in Stingaree Bay

There’s some rock and sand patches between The point and the channel but as mentioned be careful with the wake of big ships breaking in the shallows.
