Avalon boat ramp - geelong
Was thinking of launching from their tommorrow...anyone launched from this ramp any tips :set1_fishing: :set1_fishing:

Re: Avalon boat ramp - geelong
The ramp itself is very good but the first 200 metres is very shallow so make sure you don't have your motor all the way down

Its launchable but try not to launch when the tide is too low.

Re: Avalon boat ramp - geelong
So went out friday , was bit windy 10 knots or more but decide to launch from st helens, conditions were better then expected get a bit of protection around geelong cause of cliffs).
Headed out at 1.30 just after low tide , went up to corio quary , nth shore rocks area , sounded up some good stuff , but only had one run ,,,
Unlike Werribee it only couple of minute drive to you hit ten meter water depth,,, think i will spend this coming snapper exploring this area..
Will spend next couple of trips sounding and marking potential good spots to fish.... very scenic and plenty of stuff to look while waiting for fish to bite.
Only went out for hour n half.
Best thing about st helens boat ramp that its free during week day and only 4 bucks on weekends... compared to 16 bucks to launch from altona or werribee

Re: Avalon boat ramp - geelong
The Clifton springs ramp is free but can be a bit shallow at low tide the point Richards rd boat ramp at Portarlington is also free I launch there all the time just don't turn right to early head for the red stick there is a big sand bar there very shallow I have a 6+mt boat and have no problem. Looking at the aerial photo's of the Avalon ramp all I see are marks where people have dragged there props
