Clifton Springs Jetty EGI Squid Session

Post by Andrews » Sat Aug 28, 2021 11:01 am

Hey everyone,

Went for a quick flick yesterday after work with the hopes of laying some ink and testing out a new phone tripod.
Got there after 5, clean run in-tide with a water depth of 1-1.2M. Weather was overcast and pretty cool, low winds keeping it pleasant.

The bottom is a mix of light patchy eel grass and sand, but man is it shallow. I went with a 2.5 and the technique I've found to work best is a double hop, let it hit the bottom, then repeat. It snags a lot less than the dart underhand tech.

Fished for about half an hour and just as that sun set, two squid came in over the shallow weed bed. Both were caught mid water, the second toward the top. Second was slightly bigger.
Wish the photos had of come out better with the bad lighting.

Maaate I'm jealous!

When this lockdown is over, I'll have to setup a time with you to fish there and test the Sephia BB.

Taking photos during low light condition is tricky isn't it.

Cheers Sebb!

Yeah for sure, and hopefully that's about the time these squid start firing up.
I know they're knocking on the heads right now, so give it a month or two and they'll be here!

Low light is the the bane of my photography, keen for the lighter nights later in the year.

Definitely can be, but I reckon while the water is only 12-13C it might be a little cold, summer might be the go. Bloke there yesterday going for some, he caught only one all night the day before.

Cheers Lightningx, keen to see if I can snag a few more this-arvo.
