Lorne gummy and snapper

Post by Kenle » Wed Dec 18, 2019 1:05 pm

G'day fellow fishos, been a while since I've posted a report to share. Busy work n family commitments as most of us here would understand can really limmit our fishing trips. But i managed to secure a few hrs with friends last weekend at the Pier. All of them are amateurs and I was just trying to get them hooked even if it's landing a squid or puffer. I had 3 bait rods out the end of the pier with a basic paternoster rig n half a Pilly on a 4/0 gama octopus. Had a few small rods for throwing squid jigs n soft plastic. We were just chilling as it was a calm 10knot with a almost full moon out, awsome scene and atmosphere. Lots of banjos, rays, port Jackson's caught on the baited rods and landed few nice squids, yellowtail mackerels and small coutas aswell. It wasn't till 1am that one of the baited rods buckled over ripping drag like mad. My mates girlfriend grabbed the rod n started reeling it in, I had to help hold the rod as she was really struggling with the force from the fish. 15 mins later after lots of laughs and everyone yelling in excitement we saw the pink silvery shiney creature, it was a really good snapper. As always I left the nets n gaff at home so down the ladder I went and with some struggle and wet shoes later I had the snapper secured on my left arm with my hand in through it's gills. With one arm I climbed each step n hoisted my body back up n over onto the pier where all my friends was just in awe with jaws dropped and gasping. Few photos n into the icebox it went. By 1:30am everyone decided to call it a night n left and I soon followed around 2am but as I was packing up one of my surf rods buckled over. Lots of short burst of runs ripping drag and as it surfaced I easily recognised the gummy shape and colour. It was a really good size fish and with the help of the fellow fisho next to me we managed to successfully land it onto the pier. Few photos later and it was bled and on ice. One of my best sessions from the pier for sure and definitely most memorable. Goodluck everyone, stay safe this festive season friends and I wish you all a happy x-mas n new year. :ch:

:gj: :sr: Excellent work and report.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.
