Queenscliff harbour squids

Post by Kenle » Sat Feb 02, 2019 11:59 pm

Went for a quick 1hr flick down at the harbour just before sunset, picked up few nice squids walking up and down along the boats. Dropped couple nice ones, got just their tip of the tentacle on me squidjig. I did spot a few school of trevaly cruising around and a few small Ray's sitting on the bottom. Few others there also landing few squids here and there. Not realy much to show but was happy to just get me squid fix even though I was time restricted.
Turned these babies into silt n pepper squids

:-D G'day Kenle

Most people get their dinner out of the fridge to cook, looks like you found a fresher and better way to get your dinner. Well done, nice six pack to bring home. I was jealous that you got six squid , , , , but even more so when I saw them all salt and peppered up, yum.

If I caught six squid, can I bring them round so you can turn them into , , , , well you know, into yum

I fished there once and I got told off by someone in a 'sorta' uniform, said no fishing around the boats. Only allowed in the channel.
Is this true?

Sounds like a lot of people fish there and no issue.

Great catch btw, and great cooking.

Great going for just an hours muck around. I much prefer salt n pepper, I find silt n pepper a bit gritty myself.

I assume you've encountered port security, I've fished there so many times I've become well known to them there. They normaly dont care where you fish dispite the no fishing written on them pontoon poles, just few house rules to keep them happy would be
- dont jump onto moored boats to fish off
- dont urinate behind trees or onto ppls boats, use the toilet provided
- dont leave rubbish behind
- dont cast baited rigs with big sinkers close to moored boats, especially them expensive looking ones.
These are just a few that I've seen them told fishos off for, they're generally really nice folks and they've even once saw me fighting a massive trevally, literally waited for me to land him before driving their boat out. Thought that was a nice gesture from them.
