Euro carp in Fyans

Post by Birdman » Mon Jan 27, 2014 10:32 am

Caught a small euro carp in my bait net yesterday, only about 30mm long and a bit hard to identify until I lifted the dorsal fin and checked the spike. I was unaware of them being here, never heard of any being caught here before, but that doesn't mean others haven't caught them before. Either way, it was dispatched very quickly and disposed of... Here's hoping the trout and Redfin keep the numbers down!

It might be a goldfish - I have seen dead carcasses on the bank.

There's also Tench in there, but I've never been able to catch one.

My thoughts initially, were goldfish too, definitely not tench, have caught them often over the years, it had a distinctive serrated spike at the front of the dorsal...

Looks like it might be a Crucian Carp

It's a bloody big shame if this is true. There are only a handful of lakes that don't hold these rubbish fish, and I was under the impression Fyans was one of them. I'm disappointed by this news.

Is be interested in what fisheries thought of the pic. As far as I know there is no reported carp in Fyans. I don't think they would be overly happy if carp got a hold up there but as the other lakes I spose its only a matter of time

Might check and see if there's a phone number that I might call tomorrow and report my find, unfortunately the size of this one tells me that breeding is occurring, don't know if much can be done other than that!

I actually made a few calls today and as far as fisheries are concerned there are no and have been no reported cases of carp in Fyans. There are gold fish, trench and roach. After a few checks on the net is be tipping a tench. At least I hope so
