Lake Wendouree this morning

Post by westvic » Thu May 14, 2020 9:19 am

Got out for first post Covid fish this morning. Conditions looked good on the forecast so got the gear ready for an early start.

Rewarded with a fantastic Ballarat late Autumn morning. Took me a while to get moving as I had to scrape ice off the windscreen. Got to the carpark at Lake Wendouree around 7am and "feels like" temp was still below zero. First light but no sun yet. Clear frosty sky and almost zero wind. Had tied on a small hardbody shallow diver in rainbow trout colours.

Well here we go back into fishing.

First cast......nothing. Damn right back were I left off a couple of months ago from my last fish.

Second cast.....bang

Only photo I took as my fingers were almost frozen solid. No measurements either but pretty happy. Was a very fat fish.

Anyway that went back into the water for next time. Kept fishing but that was the only excitement for the morning.

After a while the first bit of sun appeared.

Very nice fish mate 😃
Well done! I know the feeling. Yesterday I also went out for a short session. Was good just to be out again.
Cheers 👍🏻

Very nice fish Westy (Spotted Patagonian Char, I believe :-D ) :gj:

And I bet it was great to get out for the first time, and those icy mornings do make you feel alive, with every senses in our bodies going "rrrrr , , , , brrrr". Actually with the cold , , , , might be a Spotted Arctic Char :rf:

Glad for you guys finally getting out :tu:

Yep was great to be out.

We are very very lucky in Ballarat to have this on our doorstep. Hoping to chase some good sized Redfin soon too just waiting for a mate and his tinny :tu:

Solid trout - always good to get one early in the session, takes a bit of the pressure and frustration off. Were you using a spinner?

Cold morning but looking at that fish, it's worth it for sure. Healthy brown there :tu:
