Sunday Arvo In The Surf

Post by Whiskers » Mon Jun 21, 2021 8:38 pm

Sunday arvo here in East Gippy was a perfect day to be on the surf beaches. The beach of choice was Point Ricardo. Beautiful sunny weather and a rising tide peaking at dusk with plenty of good gutters.

I spent the arvo with a light spin outfit flicking out small slugs and there were plenty of takers, mainly smallish salmon and an odd tailor or two.

The fish of the day was a flattie. I'm guessing that few people would have taken a flattie of this size on a lure in the surf before.

:wt:

Enjoy!

What a place! That's the smallest flathead I've ever seen, but there are usually pretty decent sized salmon and tailor around, amongst other things. The number of times I've almost been spooled (or actually spooled) on that beach ...

It's crazy isn't it. No one around at all except for a bloke with a dog.

A few days ago there were plenty of chunky salmon to be had. Sunday was just small stuff.

We normally like to brag about the big fish we get but that tiny little flattie made my day!
:-D

That’s a great pic, I’m the king of small fish but this is next level.

I’ve hiked from Marlo to point ricardo before. Pretty nice place, very isolated too. Got bitten off by a few toothies around there.

It was a glassed out day when I went there and there were thousands of salmon swimming in the surf close to shore. Was magical
