A quickie at a new spot

Post by Troy McLure » Sat Apr 24, 2021 4:10 pm

Stopped off at a river/creek that I’ve known about for ages but had never given it a go so had a 15 minute session before I had to get going. I’ve heard that there is Bream and EPs amongst others in the system so I had my soft plastic rigged and ready for a few casts. First cast and I’m snagged immediately, lost the leader and all and was pissed off big time. Didn’t have time to put another leader on and was about to go but decided to try something different. I found a little spinner that I don’t even know how I got it because I don’t use them, tied directly to my braid and cast right next to the old bridge pylon where I suspect the fish would be. Second cast was smashed as soon as I started the retrieve. A short but solid fight followed before a nice Perch landed on the bank. This fish restored my faith in the fighting abilities of EPs because the last half dozen or so have been sluggish to say the least. Estimated size 37 cm, sadly had to go but I’ll be back here for sure.

What sort of spinner?
Straight braid with no leader 'ey. That EP must be keen as to hit the spinner.

Looks like celta. Usually it's for trout and redfin. Now we know it works for EP too :tu:

Know guys who have caught small bass on celtas too.
With the flash would be a reaction bite for sure.

Nice report Troy Mc

Cheers, hopefully I’ll swing past there on the way home this arvo with a bit more time as well. Soft plastics first up.

Update. Went back yesterday arvo and hammered the whole area, only got one small Salmon. Probably should have used a spinner again. I’ll definitely be back for another go.
