The original Lakes Entrance

Post by re-tyred » Tue Apr 13, 2021 5:06 pm

An old map showing the original entrance down near Lake Bunga. The entrance channel was through what is now the golf club and sewerage treatment works. The town of Cunningham was where Robin Street and Golf links Rd is. An early report talks about house of Cunningham getting washed into the entrance channel, during a flood.

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Another early map showing the entrance near sperm whale head. If you think this is someone just drawing something that didn't exist. Take a look on Google Earth and you can see a number of entrance scours.

My grandparents had 5 acres on top of the hill above Golf Links Rd the views were incredible. My grandfather was an engineer at the oil bore at Lake Bunga.
