last night on the whiting.

Post by mr smokey » Sat Feb 20, 2021 3:01 pm

Good session last night. Headed around to Barrier at around 1700hrs. Initially very slow/end of tide. Got a couple of undersize whiting. Moved to behind Fraser Island area with little success after a number of moves around the "usual" spots. Back down to opposite the govt jetty with all the mullion $$ boats parked up having a soiree & supping their chardy. Found THE spot and ended up with two dozen between the two of us as the tide turned and into dark all around 37cm. Now, suggestion, I get annoyed with the "mad swings" as the boat swings around with the wind. My good mate Tony made up a "lump" (see photo). I drop this in and tie it to the arse end and it helps to slow the swings down. when you find "The Spot" you need to keep casting into it. I also use it on the river - tie up at the bow with a long hook in the trees and drop the "lump" behind. It keeps the A end out into the current. Very pleased with the result.

Good session. I sometimes use a small folding anchor out the back. Usually set up just a little bit across the tide so that it hangs to one side and the fish the other side. I spent a very early Friday morning up near Carstairs bank, where I had been getting KGWs, but had a donuts. So will try the local haunts next go. Unless I go offshore chasing gummies. So many options so few fishing days ,,,😁

So far,I have planned for tomorrow arvo out the front. Just seeing what is happening weatherwise. I had a folding anchor initially but once I started using it in the rivers I was a tad concerned about getting it hooked up on logs.

Lol we had whiting for lunch today. Still have 3 more feeds in the freezer. Been a big year for them and nice size fish.
