Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes
Save your money. Two baits that work, mussels and peeled prawn. Get the mussels from around the jetties and rocks. Secret is get them the day before. Keep them in a bucket. Before you go out fill the bucket with hot water from the tap. Leave them in there a few minutes, when they open, tip the water out. If you want to pre shell them the night before, put the shelled flesh in a container and cover with salt. You can freeze them like that if you want to keep them for a while.
Number 8 hook small running sinker or very light paternoster rig. Fish in 1.8-2.5mtrs next to weed beds. South side of Flannagan Is is the go at the moment.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Thank re-tyred for all that great info . Appreciate it . Hopefully will have something to report back in a few days . Also will be launching from Eagle point most days , if it’s a bit blowy where would be the best place to launch closer to the whiting grounds . Thanks

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes
sandef and Bombers93 the boat ramp at Nungurner is more of a shallow concrete slipway more suited to dinghies.I have launched a 4.3m Quintrex there though access can be difficult if others are parked up around the very limited parking area i.e maybe room for 4-6 trailers. Much easier to launch at Metung or Lakes both of which get busy during popular times. Depending on location and the wind ( 15-20 + kph makes for a spirited ride!) a 20 min run across from Fort King or Paynesville boat ramps is convenient and my pref being Paynesville based. You can also launch into the Mitchell Nicholson & Tambo rivers though the 5kt limit down to Lake King is a bit of an imbuggerance.

Skate park ramp at lakes is a 5 minute run to the whiting grounds. Probably 15 minutes from Metung and 10 from nungurner. Nice run down from eagle point on a good day.

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes
Quick update fished 1 - 4 pm today along with a small armada behind Flannagan's Island. Outgoing tide and a stiffish SE wind meant fishing across the tide with the boat swinging a fair bit. Very quiet - 3 moves resulted in 3 kgw 36 30 27 -smaller 2 released and a bonus flathead of about 40.KGW preferred mussel to prawn paternoster to running trace. Reckon your better fishing early on an incoming tide in that area. Shall have another go midweek

Launched today about 1 from Paynesville and made our way over to the back of Flannagan. Going through Metung the water was bubbling and birds diving so proceeded to to catch salmon and tailor up to 40 cm for the next 20 or 30 minutes . Then they vanished , were great fun on light gear . Gummy baits now sorted for western port . Got to Flannagan and fished for three or four hours making plenty of moves for 1 just sized kgw that was returned to grow and 1 small salmon . Not a lot of boats out but the ones we saw were moving a lot too so don’t think I was alone with doughnuts. Bit rough for my little tinny the next couple of days so will have to wait now for next trip up here . Beautiful place here , wife loved the many swans and babies on the water and the seal sunning himself around metung .
