Snapper fishing with the US fire fighters.
As part of their policy to spend a bit locally the US fire fighters booked a charter today to do some"deep sea" fishing.
We had 9 of them onboard at 5-30am and headed off to the pipeline. They managed to get a rare flat calm day. This year has been a shocker for windy weather.
By 6-30 we were down at the 26mtrs rocks and setup. First drop two guys were on and produced a snapper each in the 55cm region..
For the next hour we had a hot bite. Between them they managed 16 snapper all over the 40cm and a cpl at 70cm.
They had tried gummy at the local fish and chips and wanted to catch one. We moved away from the rocks and were lucky enough to get them two, not huge but decent size ones, we added a few nice flatties as well.
They decided they had enough fish to feed themselves and the rest of their team so we headed in for lunch.
These guy were terrific and good ambassadors for the US forest fire dept. They even gave us a tip
So it looks great for some autumn snapper fishing here with the water temp hanging around 19-20c.
I might even take the tinnie out tomorrow.

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

That's how it's done. Helping each other, giving good memories. Good stuff

Re: Snapper fishing with the US fire fighters.
There are a string of rocks in the 26-30 depth range from approx the grange to just past the 2nd pipeline. So 10-15nm from lakes. These are separate to the 34-38mtr reefs that run from the 4mile west parallel to shore pretty much all down the coast.

Thanks re-tyred.
Would I be pushing my luck asking for a copy of that image with the coordinates on it?
